A worked sheet-weight estimate

9mm MDF Sheet Weight

An exact 4 × 8-foot 9 mm mdf sheet weighs approximately 44.2 lb (20.1 kg) at 750 kg/m³. Reference density range: 41.3–47.2 lb.

Totals multiply the unrounded sheet estimate. Values below are rounded to one decimal for readability and exclude packaging, pallets, coatings, and other cargo. Density ranges are model inputs, not guaranteed shipping-weight bounds.

How this estimate is calculated

The dimensions are 1.2192 m × 2.4384 m × 0.009000 m. Multiply them to obtain 0.026756076 m³. Multiplying by 750 kg/m³ gives 20.067057 kg per sheet, then divide by 0.45359237 for pounds. The area is 32 ft²; the representative weight per square foot is 1.4 lb/ft².

The selected density model is 750 kg/m³ with 700–800 kg/m³ reference variation, from European Panel Federation: MDF. Whole-panel average density, not the higher face density or lower core density. Check your supplier's exact panel weight when that information is available.

Compare another sheet size

At the same thickness and density, a 4 × 10-foot sheet is 55.3 lb (25.1 kg), 25% more than a 4 × 8. An exact 5 × 5-foot sheet is 34.6 lb (15.7 kg), with 25 rather than 32 square feet of area. Actual metric stock sizes can be slightly different. Use custom dimensions for the manufacturer's measurements.

Thickness and density scale weight linearly in this model. A nominal inch label is not automatically converted to a nearby metric product: 9 mm means 9 mm here. The example is a volume calculation, not a promise that this exact material, thickness, and sheet size are sold together.

Pickup payload reference

Illustrative reference values only — not your truck's rated capacity. Compare the representative sheet total with 1,000 / 1,500 / 2,000 lb. Passengers, tools, accessories, packaging, and other cargo also use payload. Check your vehicle's actual available payload and the high weight estimate.

This reference comparison uses 20 sheets. The table above gives each smaller quantity. Check the high-density total, passengers, equipment, and your own vehicle documentation before loading.

Frequently asked questions

Does this include water or a surface finish?

No added moisture or coating allowance is applied. The source density is the reference model; rain-soaked panels, laminate, or a different wood core need product-specific information.

Why can my store list a different weight?

Nominal thickness, actual dimensions, core construction, and moisture can differ. Use the exact supplier's documented sheet mass when available instead of assuming this reference model matches that product.
